Was it good judgement for Sarah Palin to get pregnant after age 40 knowing the baby might be born with Downs?

sarah palin
TeensForObama asked:

OK, listen up. Since everyone totally misinterpreted my previous question, I’ll ask it again. I’m not saying she should have aborted her child when she learned it had Downs. I’m asking was it good judgement for her to even get pregnant in the first place knowing the risks that women face at that age.

  1. Listen up. Who are you as a teenager to question the decisions an adult makes about her family. She doesn’t consider a baby punishment like your hero Obama.

  2. Who are you to question her judgment?

    That’s between her and God.

  3. No but hey…she will get pregnant until menopause and her uterus shuts down…either that or she will give hubby permission to go boink someone else. Even GOD would forgive them for that sin I’m sure.

It’s about time to tie those tubes or knot that wink but hey…the good lord would find that an offense right?

Now THAT is great thing to get preggers when your eggs rot huh? Yeah that is great judgment.

Bring another half dozen mentally disabled kids into the world…..now that is something to be really proud of.

The lady KNEW she was having a downs baby people…not like it was a big surprise. Besides she’s so rich it aint a problem, her nanny will care for it.

    EDIT:

If a BLACK WOMAN had 5 kids and a mentally sick one she would be considered poor trash and should never bring so many kids into the world.

A rich biotch does it and it’s fine.

But hey that is America…the land of the free and non-judgemental.

  4. I don’t think that’s any of my business or yours.

  6. Look. I’m an Obama supporter and I still think your question is out of line. Many women have healthy babies at age 40+. Yes, the risk of Downs increases with the mother’s age, but each and every pregnancy is a risk.

  7. too mean of a question. alot of woman over 40 are having babies.

  8. video production on September 25th, 2008 at 9:23 pm

It is her body, she can do what she wants with it. People have children at different stages of their life, would it have been better if she had the baby when she wasn’t fit to care for it?

  9. Wow … you are crazy. Plenty of woman get pregnant after 40 these days. Learn about women.

  10. The best rumor I’ve heard is that the baby is actually the 16 year old daughters!!! Guess those abstinence teachings didn’t take!!

  11. Her choice, remember we are a pro-choice country.

  12. I think that is her choice. Remember you liberals like women to have the choice over their own body.. I don’t think anyone has the right to judge her for getting pregnant at any age…… Hypocrites.. I swear….

  13. Ask a question that is intelligent someday when you grow up

  14. thequeenreigns on October 4th, 2008 at 4:24 pm

She is pro life so I will give her credit for keeping the child.
What I cannot countenance is her standing beside a man who devalues women
John McCain joked about a woman being ***** by an ape
John McCain joked about beating his wife
John McCain voted against the Violence against women act
John McCain voted against equal pay for equal work for women

  15. I don’t think so. Most women know that the risk of birth defects increases when you get older. She already had 4 kids, why did she risk it? That child has a long hard road ahead of it.

  16. im gona go ahead and ay its none of your buisness. it has nothing to do with the election. are you this concerned over every downs baby or just this one??

  17. smellyfoot ™ on October 8th, 2008 at 8:15 am

That is what she wanted to do. Not everyone sees downs as a terrible thing that should be eradicated. For some it’s a blessing in disguise. She took the chance because she wanted another baby, and that is exactly what she happily got. Downs babies are babies too!

  18. Hey Hey Hockeytown 2008 Champs on October 9th, 2008 at 9:39 am

Sometimes accidents happen. But I’m proud of her for not taking the easy way out and aborting it and just giving up on it. This baby will still have a good life with family and friends that love him. So maybe she didn’t plan for a baby. Stuff happens. How she handles her family is her business.

  19. Getting pregnant is rolling the dice no matter what one’s age. Down’s Syndrome happens and people with Downs are valuable human beings to those who know and love them. If Ms. Palin and her husband have the energy, resources and love for another child, she doesn’t have to justify her decision to anyone. I don’t agree with her on anything else however.

  20. It seems that shes taking responsibility for her choice, unlike a dem who wants to say “Oh No, i got pregnant, i better find a clinic to get rid of it”.. Surely you wont understand such a grown-up decision on Palins part..but thats actually how it should be. You make a choice then you take responsibility for that choice.

Well, didn’t see the first question, but if this is an attempt to clarify your position, I can only imagine how insulting and childish the first one must have been.

The worst part is that this is a three day weekend, and we’ll be inundated with more banal questions from 8th graders with too much time on their hands until Tuesday…when we only have to put up with the legions of Obamanites without jobs.

The Democratic Party: Pro-Choice! We choose what’s right for everybody else!

EVE: Go back and read the last sentence of your post. Now read the the rest of it…

Have you figured out just exactly who is being judgemental yet?

    We have.

And every time you open your pie hole out here, we learn a new, disgusting thing about you, dear. Perhaps you should sew that thing shut? Just trying to help.

KIZ: Hmm….what about the Obama kids? Are you telling me that parenting is Michelle’s job? That she should stay busy with the kids and the cooking? Ah…more enlightenment from the Democratic Party.

  22. i think she did the right thing, the baby still wants to be loved no matter what

  23. Jeannie Out of the Bottle on October 20th, 2008 at 4:10 pm

A lot of women are having babies in late 30’s and early 40’s today. It is a risk, but only about 40 to 60 Downs Syndrome babies in 10,000 births.

  24. She already had four children. Should have been using birth control at her age. If McCain had to have a woman on his ticket, why didn’t he pick someone like Condi Rice who has no children, or Kay Baily Hutchinson who’s through with her mothering responsibilities? It sounds like Ms. Sarah has too much on her plate already, and as the pundits are saying, she would be only a heartbeat away from becoming president. That scares me.

  25. No. The risks may be heightened at her age, but a genetic or chromosomal abnormality can happen with ANY pregnancy.

  26. This has got nothing to do with any of us, including you!!!!

  27. nunya_bizness49090 on October 29th, 2008 at 2:02 pm

There was nothing wrong with her judgement demonstrated by such a decision. Barack and Michelle Obama had their youngest daughter (Sasha) when Michelle was 38…so, did they exhibit poor judgement too?

I do, however, question your parents judement. Obviously, something went wrong.

  28. Women of all ages have babies born with Down’s Syndrome. The odds merely become greater with age, but it’s not like a majority of women over 40 have babies with Down’s Syndrome.

I think it’s more interesting that she had an amniocentesis while she was pregnant. First off, the procedure is very risky for the fetus. Secondly, the primary reason they give the test to women over 40 is that the risk of Down’s Syndrome exceeds the risk of abortion at that point. Now I find myself asking, if she’s pro-life, why would you risk destroying your fetus? Another interesting question (to me at least) is, why did she wait several days to share the results with her husband?

  29. Some people believe that ANY child is a gift from god, sent to them for a reason. Give her the benefit of the possibility of an ‘accident’…’tho I personally don’t believe in ‘accidents’. When my granddaughter became sexually active I suggested she be on the pill, and that her partner ALWAYS use protection. (If a man won’t take precautions, he doesn’t “love” you.)
I do not share her beliefs, but she has a right to those beliefs for HERSELF - but I do not want them foisted on me or anyone else who does not wish them.

  30. It was her choice and she is responsible for living with the consequences. Much better than I can say for most people.

You are aware that the first pregnancy is also considered risky? Working moms and those who chose careers first, are now having children in their 40’s on a regular basis, so why question the judgement of Sarah Palin?

I question the judgement of any politician who would even conceive of raising the taxes of those who pay this country’s bills during an economic downturn. Uninformed and naive does not even begin to describe that disastrous policy. That is worthy of being deemed very poor judgement (at a minimum). These are the types of things that should be the focus of voters for this election.

  31. kathy_is_a_nurse on November 5th, 2008 at 4:37 pm

We don’t know the circumstances of that pregnancy. Honestly, chances for Down’s Syndrome in older women is only significant… usually… if they have not had other pregnancies. Obviously, that was not an issue for her.

I find it amazing that people attack her for her choices at being a mother. Watch out folks, it doesn’t cast YOU in a very good light.

  32. More women of Democrats, Republicans, and third parties have their babies after 40. I was 39 years old to have my second son. IF I wait one more year to have more babies, I still would have one after 40. Not a big deal. We are in different generation than most of our parents have at their 18, and 20’s. A few percent of women have the children before 24, I think it is better to wait until when you are ready to be a mother to have children the better you are , because it gives you more appreciative and looking forward to make the times for children to share with in your life. If a person who is not ready, will always find the way to hurt child or ruin the child’s life because thinking it is inconvience to have the child over something else. For example, in the news, Casey Anthony who just had her Caylee at 20, she even doesn’t want her at first, wanted to give her up for adoption, but her parents were against that. So it is always the best when you are ready to be a mother to have a child at any age even after 40 too. It is twice blessing to have children before 40 and after 40.

  33. Lots of over 40 people have normal, healthy babies.

  34. Did you ever consider it may have been an accident? You are aware that sometimes birth control does fail.

  35. What happened to Pro Choice and a woman’s right to decide what’s right for her body? Her choice!

    Palin’s “…articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking…”…

    AND CHANGE NOT another Lawyer!

And if J Biden’s so good why the poor showing in the D Primaries?!? Rejected, damaged goods???

  36. The baby may not be hers…it is the daughters…

  37. Hm. Only more reason to believe the rumors that it was really her daughter, Bristol, who got pregnant, and that the family is trying to cover it up.

  38. Gah you guys. You never know what happened. It could have been an accident!!!
And since she is pro-life, she kept him.

  39. I would say it is socially and humanly irresponsible to despise birth control and get pregnant after age 40.
