Sarah Palin said she would be in charge of the Senate or over the senate. How is this so?

Today Sarah Palin made a statement that as vice president she would be in charge of running the senate or over the senate. She said she could get them to get things done. I don’t think she understand how the constitution is set up. I hope she don’t think she can approach the senate like she did with the troopergate scandal. Please explain to me what she meant. Only people who understand the constitution need to reply. I am only asking a question.

Maybe she will, but not in this lifetime.
She’s been listening to Cheney rather than reading the Constitution.
The vice president is the president of the senate.
The VP is the president of the Senate. The VP doesn’t vote unless to break a tie.
Come on guys this is high school civics 101!
She is completely mistaken. The Vice President can make the tie-breaking vote. She is certainly no **** Cheney who uses his considerable stature in his favor.
The vice president gets to sit in on the senate and vote on all bills!
I think the vice-president is leader of the senate and settle a tie vote if there is one. That position gives the vice-president some power in the senate.
The VP convenes the Senate and votes in a tie. There is usually president pro tem, but the VP is entitled. She did that much reading, but she can’t “get them to get things done.” The process is the process, and it moves with or without the VP. Just like McCain can’t stop earmarks.
The Vice President while being part of the Executive Branch is the President of the Senate. (not to be confused with the Congress which is the joint efforts of both the House and the Senate. VPs have no say over the House).
BUT: really the only privledge the VP has is in the case of a tie vote, the VP casts the deciding vote. Thats it. The VP can NOT introduce legislation and other than the tie-breaking vote should the need arise, has NO VOTE in the senate.
The Vice-President is the president of the Senate. However the ONLY power the president of the Senate has is to cast a tie-breaking vote. Other than that she would have absolutely NO power over the Senate.
This once again demonstrates Palin’s extreme misunderstanding of how the US government works.
The VP is head of the senate but not in the way that she means. After the election she’ll be in charge of the nose wipes…
I was scared to death when I heard her say that crap . She is damn and stupid , that why she did not want TV interview . she should go back to Alaska.
I don’t think you know how the constitution is set up ! The Vice President IS officially in charge of the senate ! look it up !!
“Where does a lot of that earmark money end up anyway? […] You’ve heard about some of these pet projects they really don’t make a whole lot of sense and sometimes these dollars go to projects that have little or nothing to do with the public good. Things like fruit fly research in Paris, France. I kid you not.”
Palin
I am appalled.
This idiot woman, this blind, shortsighted ignoramus, this pretentious clod, mocks basic research and the international research community. You damn well better believe that there is research going on in animal models — what does she expect, that scientists should mutagenize human mothers and chop up baby brains for this work? — and countries like France and Germany and England and Canada and China and India and others are all respected participants in these efforts.
Yes, scientists work on fruit flies. Some of the most powerful tools in genetics and molecular biology are available in fruit flies, and these are animals that are particularly amenable to experimentation. Molecular genetics has revealed that humans share key molecules, the basic developmental toolkit, with all other animals, thanks to our shared evolutionary heritage (something else the wackaloon from Wasilla denies), and that we can use these other organisms to probe the fundamental mechanisms that underlie core processes in the formation of the nervous system — precisely the phenomena Palin claims are so important.
This is where the Republican party has ended up: supporting an ignorant buffoon who believes in the End Times and speaking in tongues while deriding some of the best and most successful strategies for scientific research. In this next election, we’ve got to choose between the 21st century rationalism and Dark Age inanity. It ought to be an easy choice.
